Introduction

If you are having issues with the view of the macOS Notes app, where notes are not showing to the side of the list of notes, and you can only open notes in a new window, this is the guide to reset your Notes view

  1. Open the Notes app if you haven't already
    • Open the Notes app if you haven't already

  2. The gallery button is in the top menu bar, looking like four squares

    • This will ultimately result in an odd behaviour & will leave only the side bar showing folders open

  3. Do this by clicking the yellow button containing '-' in the app's top bar
    • Do this by clicking the yellow button containing '-' in the app's top bar

  4. Right click or CMD+Click the Notes App in the dock and click 'Quit'
    • Right click or CMD+Click the Notes App in the dock and click 'Quit'

    • This should restore your Notes view back to normal

    • You may have to select the button on the top left in order to restore your folder sidebar, if you wish
